How LinkedIn connects military veteran NFL fans

LinkedIn provides a military veteran the tools to build your professional brand, manage your professional network, and gain the skills you’ll need to be successful in every stage of your career. When it comes to NFL fans I wanted to share a presidential story with you. About a cyber security Air Force veteran whose favorite NFL player of all time is Emmitt Smith.

Last September I discovered a new content supporter on Facebook. In addition, as I share content on the LinkedIn platform she engages there too. We happen to be 2 professional veterans LinkedUp on LinkedIn as a result now. Independence Day is just around the corner and this July I want to highlight NFL fans who are veterans inside my established LinkedIn network like Shameka Mallory.

Why is this important for other veterans to know especially within the “Other 31” NFL fan bases? Just call it veterans with benefits. Are you a transitioning veteran from active duty into the workforce?  I recommend that you set up your profile there now!

The NFL and DOD have a history

Every year the NFL runs its “Salute To Service” campaign highlighting military veterans in November. For many years the NFL has been connected to the Department of Defense. After all, they’re both businesses. The gridiron patriotism definitely helped my recruiting efforts while in uniform.

Salute to Service is a year-round effort to Honor, Empower, and Connect the nation’s service members, veterans, and their families. It is grounded in deep partnership with nonprofits and organizations that support the military community in the United States and across the world.

The NFL extends its appreciation of the military community through special moments of recognition at games and events and visits to military bases both domestically and internationally throughout the year. Since 2011, more than $58 million has been raised for the league’s military nonprofit partners.

Take it from a LinkedIn military veteran

As a creator on Facebook keeping up with the Jones on LinkedIn can be a challenge. In the month of June 2 opportunities have risen to benefit 2 of my supporters. The first I share with you is about Shameka who works for GE virtually and moonlights with her new gig the RIVA City Dallas Cowboys Fan Club in Virginia.

While serving in the Air Force she was involved with cyber security. It’s good to have friends with benefits. After her departure from the ranks, she worked with the FBI briefly. All of which are located in her LinkedIn profile. Going back to February 22, 2022, is when things escalated quickly.

Most NFL fans who create a fan club have been a member of another before. This is true with Shameka as a big part of why she created her own was integrity. In her previous club, she recognized that members’ efforts were taken for granted and not recognized accordingly. This drove her to create the RIVA City Dallas Cowboys Fan Club.

The GOAT on LinkedIn

Did you know the GOAT himself is on LinkedIn too? One look at the date when things escalated for Shameka and her club and it’s all in the numbers. Emmit Smith is Shameka’s favorite Dallas Cowboys player of all time. She shared she has YET to get a photo with him but bumped into him at a CSA event.

During our discussion, she shared how much she loves the number 22. In addition, if the GOAT can have a profile on LinkedIn what’s stopping you? As we circle back around to Facebook her favorite player may likely be over 21k fans too in my group Official America’s Team.

In a few days, we will learn who the group’s favorite Dallas Cowboys player of all time is. Her nomination of the GOAT himself in that poll is currently running away with all the votes. Like Shameka, there are a number of other veterans in that group who could benefit from LinkedIn. Especially for those transitioning from boots to corporate.

“People pay significant dollars for these things; they pay their hard-earned cash because they believe in the athlete or the person that they’re collecting items from. When you get taken advantage of, it’s disappointing and it hurts the market.”
